Government consultation on plans to increase public spending with sector
Charities have been asked to share their views on the government’s plans to increase public sector procurement spending with the sector.
Earlier this year, the Cabinet Office published a procurement policy statement requiring central government departments to ‘maximise procurement spend’ with VCSE organisations. It has since opened a consultation, which runs until 5 September and proposes mandating other large public bodies to set direct VCSE spending targets. The proposals would require contracting authorities with a procurement spend over £100m per year, including large councils and NHS Trusts, to publish their own three-year targets for direct spend with VCSEs and small-medium enterprises (SMEs) and report against them annually. The deadline for the government consultation is 5 Sept 2025.
NCVO has shared its own survey to pull together a response from the sector to send to government. Read more here. The deadline for sharing views with NCVO is 18 Aug 2025, 9am.
