UNiTE to End Violence Against Women & Girls

A coordinated community response to Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Islington

An online event to be held via Zoom on the 30th November 11am – 12.30pm

Islington Faiths Forum and Islington Hate Crime Forum are working in partnership with the Council’s VAWG and Community Safety teams to deliver a free online community event on Thursday 30th November.  The event is being organised as part of the activities to mark this year’s Elimination of Violence against Women day on 25 November, which launches the annual 16 days of activism to conclude on 10 December 2023—the date that marks International Human Rights Day. The global theme for this year's 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence is UNiTE to End Violence against Women. UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls

The coordinated community response to Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) event aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the impact and prevalence of VAWG

  • Increase awareness of the services and support available for victims and their families

You will hear from some great speakers and have the opportunity to discuss how we can ‘unite’ to support a coordinated community response to VAWG in Islington.

Violence against Women & Girls (VAWG) remains the most widespread and pervasive human rights violation worldwide affecting more than an estimated 1 in 3 women, a figure that has remained largely unchanged over the last decade.  Seven women a month are killed by a current or former partner in England and Wales.  62% of children living with domestic abuse are directly harmed by the perpetrator of the abuse, in addition to the harm caused by witnessing the abuse of others.
In 2022/23, Police recorded 2,783 Domestic Abuse criminal offences and Islington specialist VAWG services supported over 1,500 survivors.
