Diabetes and Ramadan

Diabetes UK are currently making plans to work within Islington with an aim to improve care and support for people living with diabetes. They also hope to increase awareness around prevention of diabetes and how to live well. Diabetes UK would be keen to hear from any community groups or organisations that may wish to work with them or partner on any projects across the next year. They are particularly keen to reach out to the Black African, Black Caribbean and South Asian Communities as well as those living in deprivation.

Diabetes UK can also offer awareness talks, delivered by highly trained volunteers, to any organisation who feel they may benefit from this. Another offer is diabetes ambassador training for staff and volunteers from community organisations, this short training session upskills staff so that they feel confident discussing diabetes with their service users and know how to direct them to the right support.

With Ramadan coming up they have also created a number of resources that may be helpful to organisations working in the borough. These include a dedicated webpage, Ramadan factsheets available in multiple languages, a dedicated video on learning zone local as well as past webinars on Ramadan preparation and Healthy eating during Ramadan.

They are also running a zoom session on Diabetes and Ramadan which is open to any partners supporting their community in preparing for Ramadan which will take place on Wednesday, 5th February, 6pm-7pm on Zoom (click to register)
